Shelley Keeling, the daughter of the athlete who died in 2021, said that her mother moved a lot in her old age to stay active and ate vegetables and fruits every day, according to Eat This, Not That.
“She loved vegetable dishes, drank vegetable and fruit juices. There was some meat on her menu. Her body worked perfectly,” admitted the athlete’s daughter. She added that she brought her mother to the sport when the lady was suffering from depression due to the loss of her husband and two sons. “She was very surprised when she saw me with sneakers, - Shelley recalled - but I never thought that she would be so keen on running at a mature age.”
Ida Keeling held the record in the 95 to 99 and 100 to 104 age groups. In 2017, the elderly runner broke her femur and underwent surgery and rehab. She decided to run again when she fully recovered. Keeling set another record in 2018 at the age of 102.
The granddaughter of a 96-year-old Italian woman previously shared the secret of her grandmother's longevity. She spoke about the favorite products of her oldest relative.
