It reduces pressure
The scientists have found that foods containing cocoa help lower blood pressure levels. As it turned out, consuming cocoa-based products can lead to a positive change in systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared to consuming black or green tea for seven days. These beneficial changes are attributed to the presence of antioxidants in cocoa, which can stimulate nitric oxide production, as it relaxes the blood vessels.
It slows down aging
Cocoa powder is also rich in phenolic phytochemicals and flavonoids. Zinc that is present in it, helps protect the body from oxidative stress, which is the main cause of accelerated aging, scientists say.
It supports brain health
Cocoa is high in flavonoids such as flavonol. The research led by Dr. Norman K. Hollenberg has demonstrated that flavonol can help maintain brain health. The results prove that consumption of cocoa-based foods can increase blood flow to the brain and help in the treatment of vascular diseases.
It normalizes cholesterol levels
A 2004 study shows that cocoa can have hypoglycemic and hypocholesterolemic effects on blood glucose and cholesterol levels. It can lower triglycerides and LDL (bad) cholesterol in the body and lead to marked increases in HDL (good) cholesterol.
