Raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, and cranberries were especially targeted, according to a
scientific paper published in Foods magazine. According to scientists, these berries are rich in vitamins,
carotenoids and antioxidants that can protect cells from free radical damage and prevent the
development of inflammation in the body. This, in turn, reduces the likelihood of developing dangerous
diseases such as cancer and type 2 diabetes.
Experts at the Harvard School of Public Health note that a healthy diet is one of the top three factors
when it comes to minimizing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In addition to red fruits such as
strawberries and raspberries, doctors advise eating whole grains and increasing physical activities.
“A healthy and balanced diet can also reduce the risk of cancer,” the specialists of Cancer Research UK
noted. In particular, they advised eating foods high in fiber: fruits, vegetables, lentils, beans, and
oatmeal. Natural dairy products may reduce the risk of bowel cancer”, the Cancer Research UK experts
The doctors also recommended reducing the consumption of processed and red meat. These include:
- chicken nuggets;
- fast food.
