Thanks to the scientific research results, it is known that daily walking helps to extend people’s life. This conclusion was made by scientists from the American Heart Association. With the help of a special device, the number of steps was assessed during normal walking and with walking on stairs and general physical activity during the day. The results of the subjects for the period from 2011 to 2019 confirmed the benefits of walking for health and longevity.
The authors of another study noted the positive impact of walking for stroke survivors. According to neurologists, daily walking for 3-4 hours reduces the risk of mortality from various causes by 54%.
Adult is recommended to spend at least 150 minutes a week for physical activity in average. However, due to the nature of work, comorbidities or age characteristics, most people lead a sedentary lifestyle.
Older adults who may find it difficult to exercise regularly are encouraged to walk daily if possible. As a result of research work, scientists have established a link between walking and life expectancy in people aged 85 years and older. The authors confirm that even one hour of walking a week helps to prolong the life of the elderly.
