About 30% of those polled are New Year's promises related to health and sports. 16% of respondents are planning to start attending a fitness center or gym in the coming year. 12% of large and medium-sized cities dwellers promise themselves to lose weight, go on a diet or switch to a healthy diet this coming year. About the same number of Russian citizens intends to quit smoking, stop drinking alcohol or reduce their consumption to a minimum.
Family and family happiness are also among the main priorities of the Russians. Approximately 20% of respondents promise to spend more time with their families and loved ones next year. Every tenth family at the age under 40 is planning to have a baby in 2020. 22% of young families consider obtaining mortgages to improve housing conditions. 15% of the survey participants want to travel more with family and friends in the coming year.
About 20% of respondents set personal financial goals: they plan to start saving money, learn how to manage their family budget, and invest their savings efficiently. The respondents explained that these goals occur due to planning of large expenses. Among the future large purchases that this group of respondents plans is a new car (28%), overseas trip (10%), new furniture, large household appliances (8%), new house, cottage or apartment (5%). About 7% of Russian families are considering the possibility of obtaining a loan to finance large purchases, and another 12% are already saving or plan to start saving money for large purchases next year.
New Year's promises of 13% of respondents are related to the change of employer, the search for more interesting and well-paid jobs. The Russians intend to improve their qualifications or get additional education to improve their well-being and personal development. 3% are going to open their own business next year, another 3% - to move to another city.
