The total damage from their “activities” exceeded several million rubles. All members of the organized crime group (15 people, including doctors) were found guilty and were given various punishments: from 3.5 years to 6 years of suspended imprisonment.
The scheme by which the fraudsters operated was quite simple: most of them entered into contracts with various insurance companies, which included the risk of receiving payments for injuries sustained as a result of an accident. Then the doctors got involved: being practicing medical workers, they entered deliberately false information into medical documents, fictitious diagnoses, for which the insured received payments. After receiving the payments, the doctor kept 85% of the "profit" for themselves, 15% went to the "victim".
The criminal actions of the accused were terminated in December 2019, when criminal cases were initiated against several defendants. Subsequently, additional episodes of criminal activity were identified, and in total, 52 serious crimes were proven. Of these, 4 episodes with fictitious fractures (heel, ankle) relate to Sovcombank Insurance, in the amount of 836 thousand rubles (4.5 million tenge).
The sentence has not become effective in law; it is being appealed due to the excessively lenient punishment and its disproportion to the damage caused.
