What Women in Russia Invest in

There are more women than men among buyers of investment life insurance policies (ILI) by Rosgosstrakh Life and those who trust the management of savings to Otkritie Asset Management.

Female clients of Otkritie Bank are buying investment life insurance from Rosgosstrakh Life more often than men: the proportion of women among the owners of such policies is 63.2%. However, the average check for these products in men is twice as high: 922 thousand rubles against 471 thousand rubles.

Women most often invest in shares of the largest international companies that are part of the “Sector Leaders 2.0” strategy. This portfolio includes securities of such global giants as Adidas and Volkswagen: it is chosen by almost 40% of female clients of Otkritie Bank, who have entered into an investment insurance contract with IC Rosgosstrakh Life. Most often they conclude insurance contracts for three years and prefer coupon yield.

Among the clients of Otkritie Bank, who chose the products of the management company, women make 64%, and the amount of funds allocated by them at the end of 2019 exceeded 17 billion ruble.

The clients of Otkritie Bank investing in products of the management company prefer such conservative instruments with a stable income as trust management strategies with capital protection and bond mutual funds.

The largest percentage (38%) of women chose the “Coupon” capital protection strategy, which allows them to receive coupon income and return on investment based on the results of the investment period. The amount of investing by women under this strategy for 2019 amounted to more than 7.3 billion rubles.

Ladies also actively use the advantages of individual investment accounts. By the results of 2019, the trust management agreements for maintaining an individual investment account were concluded with 33% of the company's female clients, and the funds managed using this tool exceed 3.6 billion rubles.

6% of female clients of Otkritie Asset Management Company chose the shares of the conservative Otkritie-Bonds fund as an object for financing and invested more than 1 billion rubles in it.

Konstantin Fedulinsky, General Director of Otkritie Management Company:

“Most of the clients of our management company today are women debunking the myth that only men can be successful investors. Our mission is to tell women that managing money wisely, investing, and taking care of family well-being is in their nature. And we are fully ready to support them on the way to achieving financial goals.”

Female clients of Otkritie Bank investing in Otkritie Broker products place an average of more than 1 million rubles on a brokerage account. They usually follow a conservative strategy and make less than 40 transactions per year. The most popular instrument is low-risk federal loan bonds. As a rule, cash is kept in rubles, but USD is the most demanded among currencies, and very small amounts are kept in euros. Customers choose among the shares of Gazprom-neft, Lukoil and Lenenergo.
