Inflation in Kazakhstan exceeded 16% year-on-year

Inflation in August was 16.1% on year-on-year basis, according to the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The prices for food products in August this year increased by 20.8% compared to August prices last year, non-food products grew in prices by 15.5% and commercial services - by 10.1%.

A significant increase in prices in the food market in annual terms was noted for granulated sugar - 92.8%, onion - 46.9%, flour - 41.4%. A decrease in prices was observed for beets by 12.4%, carrots - by 11.6%.

The increase in prices for non-food products in August amounted to 15.5%. The price level for stationery grew by 60.5%, personal goods - by 28.4%, detergents and cleaning products - by 26.6%, household appliances - by 24.2%, building materials - by 20%, children's footwear - 19.6%.

Prices for commercial services have built up by 10.1% over the year.

“The Bureau monthly calculates the index of consumer prices, which characterizes the level of inflation. We see changes in tariffs and prices for services and goods, for a total of 508 items,” said the director of the Price Statistics Department of Bureau Kuanyshbek Zhakypbekuly.
