According to the 52-year-old driver, he got a call from a stranger who introduced himself as an employee of "State Services" and said that the Russian needed to renew his compulsory medical insurance policy (analogous to the domestic compulsory medical insurance). The man received a message and dictated the code.
Later, “the bank security service employee” contacted him and said that his account had been hacked. To prevent unknown people from taking out a loan on him, the attackers offered to issue "mirror" loans and send the funds to a secure account.
“The victim cashed out his savings, took out five loans at various banks and transferred more than 3.3 million rubles through ATMs and a mobile application to the accounts specified to him,” the department shared.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact of the incident. Law enforcement officers are currently identifying the persons involved in the fraud.
