The wages of men reached 361.5 thousand tenge (plus 22.3%), the wages of women - 285.7 thousand tenge (plus 16.4%). Men's wages were generally 12% higher than the average wage; women's wages, on the contrary, were 11.5% lower than the average.
The highest wages for men were observed in Atyrau, Mangistau and Ulytau regions, while women received the most in Almaty, as well as in Atyrau and Ulytau regions.
The difference between the average monthly nominal wages of men and women is 26.5% in favor of men. However, a year earlier the difference was only 20.4%.
By region the largest gap in 2023 was observed in the Atyrau region: 85.8% in favor of men (in 2022 - 77.2%). Mangistau and Ulytau regions come next: 72.8% and 52.4%, respectively. The smallest gap of 1.8% was noted in Zhambyl region.
Women were paid more on average than men in only 2 out of 20 regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Thus, men earned 6.1% less in the Zhetysu region, 0.8% less than women in the Turkestan region. For comparison: the average monthly nominal wage for women was higher than for men in 5 out of 18 regions of the country in 2022.
By type of economic activity, men earned the most in the financial and insurance industries, mining and quarrying, and information and communications in 2023.
Women, in turn, earned the most in the areas of mining and quarrying, financial and insurance activities, and accommodation and food services.
