According to the expert, drinking hot drinks in large quantities do not help overcome the illness.
“Increased fluids with the flu never hurt, but they should be warm not boiling. It is better to drink acidified fluid than sweet, but without fanaticism, because excess of acid can provoke gastritis. I recommend replacing drinking in the form of raspberry tea with warm lingonberry and cranberry fruit drinks. No worse in taste, but many times more useful,” Abakumov wrote in his Telegram channel.
Hot milk and honey added to a hot drink also do not have health properties. Besides, the use of citrus fruits will not speed up recovery, since vitamin C is practically useless for influenza. Excess of citrus fruits can only negatively affect the condition of the gastric mucosa, the doctor believes.
The therapist criticized the consumption of butter and animal fat, noting that these foods could lead to the gastrointestinal tract disorder.
“Butter or animal fat (poor sheep, bears, or, it is even scary to imagine, dogs) for internal and external use do not have any therapeutic effect in the fight against influenza,” the doctor notes.
Abakumov also called useless such popular means as the use of onions, garlic and vodka with pepper. The doctor dispelled the myth about steam inhalation of boiled potatoes.
“There is no benefit from this but only a risk of burning the respiratory tract and skin. All inhalations are only through a nebulizer, and potatoes are to be mashed, if you have not dripped snot there,” the expert noted.
