Nazarbayev University can be called the most expensive university in the first group. To obtain a humanitarian profession there, one has to annually transfer 7.5 million tenge to the university account. The major in engineering or IT will cost 9 million tenge a year. The total fee for the four-year period of bachelor’s degree will be 30 million and 36 million tenge, respectively. KIMEP University is in the second place in terms of tuition fees. The university operates a credit system, and the total amount of payment depends on the number of academic credits completed per year. A student must pay 16.4 million tenge for all compulsory subjects for four years, about 4.1 million tenge a year. The Kazakh-British Technical University is in the top three most expensive schools.
Of the 15 surveyed universities, the most common annual tuition fee is 1 million tenge. Technical and IT professions are usually more expensive than humanitarian ones.
The annual fee is at least two times lower in most regional universities. In most of the 10 large universities of regional centers represented in the list, the fee varies between 550–600 thousand tenge for pedagogical majors and social sciences and 730–760 thousand tenge for professions in engineering and IT areas.
