For objective judgement, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has developed an Education Index that measures a country's educational achievements.
Kazakhstan is in the 37th place in this 2024 ranking with the education level index of 0.800, behind Russia, which ranks 26th with 0.831 index, and just one position behind South Korea with 0.801. However, Kazakhstan outran countries such as Belarus (index 0.774 - 45th place), Kyrgyzstan (0.734 - 55th place) and Turkmenistan (0.717 - 60th place), as well as European countries such as France (0.769- 46th place), Italy (0.739 - 53rd place) and Spain (0.721 - 58th place).
The leading positions in this ranking are taken by Iceland with education level index of 0.938, Germany - 0.921, Norway - 0.914, Finland - 0.911 and Denmark - 0.908.
According to the research company Wisevoter, the most educated people with higher education live in South Korea - 69.29%. Canada is in the second place in the ranking with 66.36%, and Japan is the third with 64.81% of the educated population.
Education in Kazakhstan
More than 15.5 million of Kazakhstani citizens over 15 years of age can read and write. However, not all students after graduating from school have the opportunity to obtain higher education at the university where they would like to study.
The cost of higher education grows by 14-20% every year. Since 2010, education for Kazakhstani students has risen in price by more than 10 times in some countries. It is increasingly difficult for parents with average and low earnings to pay for their children’s education at universities.
In order to make higher education more affordable to the population, a special savings life insurance program within the framework of the state education savings system (SESS) has been developed.
“Voluntary educational savings insurance (SESS) works like a deposit with a 8% guaranteed annual effective rate. Besides, the amount of savings during the insurance period grows annually by a 5% state premium of the settlement amount, which includes paid premiums and return on investment regulated by law,” they explained in LIC Freedom Life.
