Some insurers are planning to increase tariffs on health insurance for people traveling abroad (Overseas travel insurance/OTI). In advance of tourist season, Kommersant conducted a survey among insurance companies and experts regarding the dynamics of prices on OTI. According to independent expert Andrey Barhota, the growth could reach 20-40%. Absolut Insurance and Ugoria are planning to increase prices already this year.
The main reasons for rise in prices are related, among other things, to a growing number of insured events against the background of increase in the actual average length of stay abroad for citizens of the Russian Federation and the cost of services of foreign medical providers, explains Andrey Kopytkin, Deputy General Director for Personal Types of Insurance of Yugoria IC. We have already been warned that prices, for example, in Turkish clinics will be increased by 20%, notes Ilya Galperin, head of sales through non-insurance intermediaries of Absolute Insurance.
Both current illnesses and chronic diseases, which are set up for exacerbations, can be treated by the insured, says Alexander Tsyganov, professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. Besides, many migrants from the Russian Federation who use premium plastic cards have one-year OTI policies; in these cases, the policy is issued for the card holder and family members almost automatically, he points out.
