In particular, as of reporting date, the urban population was 10 million 721.5 thousand people, or 58.2% of the total number, the rural population was 7 million 710 thousand people, or 41.8%.
In January-February, 2019, 615 dead babies under the age of 1 year were registered in the country (in January-February, 2018 - 587). Compared to the same period of 2018, the number of dead children under the age of 1 year has increased by 4.8%. In January-February 2019 the infant mortality rate was 9.9 cases per 1000 births (9.31).
The main cause of infant mortality are conditions arising during the perinatal period; 323 babies died because of them in January-February (261), or 52.5% of the total number of deaths among infants (44.5%). The number of child deaths from congenital anomalies was 113 (138), or 18.4% (23.5%), from respiratory diseases - 56 (53), or 9.1% (9%), and from accidents, poisonings and injuries - 19 (23), or 3.1% (3.9%).
In January-February, 2019 compared with January-February, 2018 the number of immigrants in Kazakhstan has decreased by 16.2%, the number of emigrants has increased by 16.2%. The main migration exchange of the country is with the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The shares of incomers from the CIS countries and emigrants to those states amounted to 85.5% and 89.5%, respectively.
The number of migrants moving within the country has increased by 3.7%. In terms of interregional movements a positive balance of population migration has developed in five regions of the country: West Kazakhstan (7 people), Mangystau (69) and Turkestan (142) regions and Nur-Sultan (4,146) and Almaty (4,632) cities.
