During the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the flu and ARVI season, Russians take a lot of medicines to help fight pathogens. In particular, viral infections often lead to bacterial complications requiring antibiotics. Such drugs, in turn, can have a negative side effect on the body and create an additional load, said Andrey Kondrakhin, a therapist, Candidate of Medical Science, in his interview with Sputnik radio.
“When we take various chemicals, the intestinal microflora suffers, and it should be protected where possible. If we prescribe an antibiotic, we definitely give a probiotic in order to restore the number of microorganisms, to help lactobacilli cope with the disease. Microflora can also be enhanced with dairy products, if there are no contraindications for them. It is recommended to take a large amount of liquid to dilute toxic substances. A calm diet without heavy food will also not increase the load on the body,” explained Andrey Kondrakhin.
