Kazakhstani banks note an increase in the number of cyber attacks

There is an increase in the number of the most dangerous types of cyberattacks. Phishing is one of the most widespread types of cybercrimes worldwide, with the help of which accounts and banking information are most often stolen. It is a type of computer fraud, the main purpose of which is to trick the victim into providing the fraudster with the information he needs. Phishing is punishable by law. Due to the active development of the payment card market and, accordingly, the growth in the number of non-cash payments, the largest number of phishing attacks in the entire history has been recorded over the past two years. Thus, 1,090 phishing attacks were detected in Kazakhstan, according to the results of ten months of 2020, and 832 attacks - in the same period last year. In the corresponding period of 2018, 150 attacks were recorded in total, 99 attacks - in 2017, 116 attacks - in 2016.

The situation with the COVID-19 pandemic also contributed to the increase in the number of incidents in the field of information security. Thus, about 50 messages of second-tier Kazakhstani banks about cyber incidents were registered during 2019, and already 134 messages were in 2020.

21 banks of the country issue payment cards today.
