“This year we especially felt that number of shady schemes has grown tremendously,” said Vladimir Akentyev, first deputy chairman of the board of IC Kommesk-Omir JSC, at a press conference. According to him, there has been an increase in shady schemes of staged traffic accidents involving individual traffic police officers.
“Another way of insurance fraud is when unscrupulous customers try to get payments in several insurance companies for the same damage. These cases are revealed thanks to the Unified Insurance Database with a subsequent appeal to law enforcement and initiation of criminal cases,” continued Akentyev.
He has admitted that hands of insurance organizations are tied, both with the investigation and with participation.
"In Kazakhstan, unlike Russia, there is no article in the Criminal Code for insurance fraud. In the Russian code it has existed for a long time, and it is severe. The absence of this article does not allow us to perform many actions," the company representative explained.
Akentyev has clarified that this question will be raised next year.
"Due to the current situation, the insurance community is proposing to include the article “Insurance Fraud” in the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” he concluded.
