In terms of regions, Shymkent can be considered the most athletic, where 42.1% of residents run, do push-ups, wrestle, and work out in gyms. The second place in this physical culture rating is taken by Kostanay region with a 41.9% index. The North Kazakhstan region has a bronze medal with 40.2%. The outsider by a wide margin is the Ulytau region, where only 32.1% of residents have regular exercises.
When asked why so most Kazakhstanis (mostly adults) do not regularly engage in physical education and sports, the MCS representatives have several answers. One of the reasons is a poor sport infrastructure in cities and villages. At the end of last year, this index was only 50%. According to concept authors, another reason of a weak involvement of population in mass sports is a low interest of employers. School or sports group provide children with sports, or students get it at university. Corporate sports events could be one of the options for introducing physical education in life of employees. However, there are few enterprises that systematically organize cycling marathons, races, days of sports for the team. One cannot but agree with the argument about the low motivation of the Kazakhstanis themselves. Not every resident of the country can or want to go in for sports. And it's not always about the money. A person who cannot afford a gym membership is always able to find free opportunities if they want to, such as morning jogging, home workouts, or yard simulators.
