In 2018, Dutch scientists tried to understand why people deliberately postponed sleep, even when they were tired. It turns out that the more a person must resist his desires during the day and do what he needs, and not what he really wants, the more likely he will postpone bedtime and try to make up for what he has not have time to do.
A modern work culture facilitates much of this behavior, when a person does not have a clear schedule, and the boundaries between professional duties and family life are blurred. When a person is constantly focused on success, achieving results, or simply afraid of losing his job, he often continues to answer calls and messages, leaving himself no time for those activities that he really likes.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions that ensued it only made the situation worse. Remote working and learning have completely erased the boundaries between professional and personal.
